Kentucky Overview: Nov 2, 2010 Senate election

From Wikipedia:

Two-term incumbent U.S. Senator Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) announced on July 27, 2009, that he would retire rather than seek a third term (under pressure from the Republican party to do so).

The primary elections on May 18, 2010 produced the following winners:

Republican:
Rand Paul, the son of libertarian-leaning U.S. Representative and 2008 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-Texas), defeated Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had endorsed Grayson, but Paul had the enthusiasm and momentum of the Tea Party movement behind him, including an endorsement from former Governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

Democrat:
Attorney General Jack Conway defeated Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo.

In 2008, John McCain received 57.37 percent of the vote in Kentucky while Barack Obama received 41.15 percent, a 16.22-percent margin of victory for the Republican
