Proof that women are discriminated against
It's not exactly surprising that males are perceived as more competent in science than females — but researchers at Yale University were surprised to find that even professional scientists showed evidence of such bias. Now the big question is what to do about it.
"Whenever I give a talk that mentions past findings of implicit gender bias in hiring, inevitably a scientist will say that can’t happen in our labs because we are trained to be objective," microbiologist Jo Handelsman, lead author of a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, said in a Yale news release. "I had hoped that they were right."
Nope.
Handelsman and her colleagues asked 127 science faculty members from six institutions to review an application from a senior undergraduate student looking for a job as a lab manager. The faculty members were asked to judge how competent the applicant was, how much the student should be paid, and whether they'd be willing to mentor the student.
Each researcher looked at the same application — but in some cases the applicant was given a male name (John), and in the other cases a female name was assigned (Jennifer), all on a random basis. When the results were analyzed, it turned out that the sight-unseen male applicant was rated more competent than the female. The mean starting salary offer was $30,238.10 for John as opposed to $26,507.94 for Jennifer. Faculty members were more willing to mentor John than Jennifer.
The data showed a disparity whether the demographic category in question was male or female, young or old, tenured or untenured. "The bias appears pervasive among faculty and is not limited to a certain demographic subgroup," Handelsman and her colleagues wrote.
The researchers emphasized that they weren't suggesting the biases were intentional or stemmed from a conscious desire to hold women back. In fact, they found that the faculty members tended to like Jennifer more than John. That sentiment was generally voiced by faculty women as well as faculty men. It's just that the warm feelings for Jennifer "did not translate into positive perceptions of her composite confidence or material outcomes," according to the PNAS paper.
So what is to be done? "Our results suggest that academic policies and mentoring interventions targeting undergraduate advisers could contribute to reducing the gender disparity," the researchers wrote.
The findings suggest that it's not enough to get young women interested in careers in science, technology, education and math, a.k.a. STEM. There needs to be a conscious follow-through by the folks who do the hiring and mentoring. You can read through the whole study at the PNAS website.
Maybe it shouldn't be so surprising to find out that scientists can be vulnerable to subtle biases, just like other people. Even journalists. Last month, for example, Lund University researchers Daniel Conley and Johanna Stadmark found that far fewer women than men were being invited to write commentaries for the journals Science and Nature.
Conley and Stadmark acknowledged that men tend to outnumber women in scientific fields, particularly at the higher levels, so there's something of a selection effect at work. But they said it was "still fair to conclude that fewer women than men are offered the career boost of invitation-only authorship in each of the two leading science journals." They called on the editors to "extend gender parity for commissioned writers."
Over time, raising the visibility of women scientists (and raising their salaries) will help draw more girls into research and science education. At least that's the idea. Here are a few more efforts that put girl power to work on the science world's gender issues:
'Girl Thing' reloaded: Remember the European Commission program that stirred up a controversy by putting out a glammed-up video about STEM careers for women? Now the EC's "Science: It's a Girl Thing" program is sponsoring a contest for videographers who think they can do better. On the Scientific American website, "Science Goddess" Joanne Manaster explains how to enter. The winning videos will be shown in November at the European Gender Summit at the European Parliament in Brussels. Three winners will each receive a cash prize of €1,500 ($1,930).
Think locally: It's worth looking for organizations that are bringing girl power to STEM on the community level. The best example is Sally Ride Science, which thinks globally and acts locally when it comes to getting girls involved in scientific pursuits. The organization, founded by the late space icon Sally Ride, presents a series of science festivals for girls in grades 5 through 8. The next one is coming up Oct. 27 at Rice University in Houston, with astronaut Wendy Lawrence as the featured speaker. Other organizations involved in girl-power science include Girlstart in Austin, Texas; and Science Club for Girls in the Boston area.
Women chemists in the spotlight: The Chemical Heritage Foundation's video series pays tribute to seven women who have made their mark in chemistry — including Stephanie Kwolek, the inventor of bulletproof Kevlar fiber; Paula Hammond, a pioneer in nanotechnology for drug delivery; and Nancy Chang, a successful biotech entrepreneur.

Obama's lies
RUSH: I want you to listen to something. This is on the Today Show this morning, correspondent Ann Curry. ... Ann Curry is talking to the Libyan president, Mohammed Magarief, and she said, "What is your evidence --" See, here's the thing. Obama and his administration, everybody in it, Jay Carney and the media supporting him, have lied to us for over a week about what led to the death of our ambassador in Libya. They have lied repeatedly over and over, and they continue to. They continue to lie about this movie. In fact, folks, I'm gonna tell you something. Barack Obama is a serial liar, and I think it's time to call him out on this. You know, this "nice guy" stuff and playing it close to the vest is one thing. But some things actually need to be said here, truthful, hard-hitting things, and I'm the one to say them, and today's gonna be the day. So sit tight, hang in there, and be tough. They have lied to us for a week about this video. Obama went to the UN yesterday and made most of his speech or quite a large part of his speech about this video, which even now nobody has ever seen. All they're doing is promoting it. All they're doing is giving others who want to be agitated by it an excuse it be.
So Ann Curry is talking to the president of Libya today, Mohammed Magarief, and she said, "What is your evidence that it was a preplanned act of terrorism?" This guy's out there saying it wasn't the video, so here comes Ann Curry, representing the media, (imitating Curry) "What do you mean? We've been told it's a video. Our president said it's a video. Who are you? You're just the Libyan president. What evidence do you have?" That's what she said, that was her question, "What is your evidence that it was a preplanned act of terrorism?"
MAGARIEF: Number one, is choosing the date, 11th of September, has all the significance. If we take the facts about the way it was executed, there is enough proof that it is a preplanned act of terrorism.
CURRY: This was a preplanned attack, not a reaction to a controversial movie?
MAGARIEF: Yes. I have no doubt about this.
CURRY: Do you think the movie had anything to do with this attack on the consulate?
MAGARIEF: It has nothing to do with this attack.
RUSH: There you have it, the Libyan president, nothing to do with it. Were you all able to hear that? It sounded odd to me. Good, everybody heard it. You get the narrative here. (imitating Curry) "Well, now, wait a minute, Mr. Libyan president, we've been told by our beloved president, The One, that it was a video that led to the rioting." By the way, we've known before today that other sources have come out and made it clear, even the diary of the deceased ambassador makes it clear, that he knew that an attack was imminent and it all had to do with 9/11. And if it had to do with anything besides 9/11, it had to do with Obama taunting these people about Osama Bin Laden being dead because he'd killed him.
So the narrative is that this video did it. Some conservative Christian video led to all this, including the death of our ambassador. Here comes a Libyan president, and she says, "Well, what evidence do you have?" So he answers her, and she says, "You mean it was preplanned? Nothing to do with the movie?"
"It has nothing to do with the attack."
There you have it, folks. Barack Obama, his enablers in the media, members of his administration, have lied to us for over a week about this, and they continue to. You might say, "Well, why?" Folks, I'm not a liar. I can't explain them. It's pathological. It's the same as trying to explain Bill Clinton. These people construct with all of their lies an actual reality they live in. I think they tell the lie so often, I mean, it's the definition of a pathological liar, you believe the lies that you tell. It is a sickness, and this is just latest illustration of Obama as a serial liar. Look, you and I know this. But I think it's time to call him out and say exactly that. He went on 60 Minutes. He blamed Bush for the debt. The fact is that Obama is responsible for $5.5 trillion in debt, in just four years. Bush had nothing to do with it. That doesn't even count what's coming with Obamacare.
I'm not denying that Bush was a big spender, but the debt that we've got now, $5.5 trillion of it took place in the last 3-1/2 years, with Obama at the helm. It's his. He owns it. He broke it; he owns it. And that doesn't count what's coming with Obamacare and all the Taxmageddon stuff coming with the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. Imagine interest rates when they begin to increase. And one-third of the federal budget is chewed up paying interest on this debt. Wait 'til that happens. Folks, we're headed for an economic collapse if something doesn't change. It's difficult to pinpoint when, but it's going to happen. This is unsustainable. This kind of spending and this kind of debt and the debt service cannot continue and at the same time have a thriving and growing private sector economy.
Now, Obama gets away with these statements, which come fast and frequently. But there's something not right about this. These lies just flow out of his mouth and off of his lips as naturally as a baby's cries. Now, I don't know, as I say, I'm not an expert. I don't know if it's purposeful, if he's delusional, or if it's strategic. It could be a combination of those things. He's running commercials in battleground states claiming that Romney's tax plan would increase taxes on the middle class by $2,000. There's not a single thing in Romney's tax plan that raises taxes on the middle class, period. Romney cuts middle class taxes by 20%. He doesn't raise taxes on anybody. It's Obama who's going to be raising taxes. Obama, in effect what he's doing, is taking what his policies are going to be, his future policies and what his policies have been, and he's simply saying that they're Romney's.
It's an artful attempt at transference. Take what you're doing and take what you've done, and blame it on the other guys, as though you haven't even been president for 3-1/2 years and you've got a supportive media out there helping to spread the lies. Obama's using a report that has been conducted by a group where some of his supporters work. They claim that Romney's tax cuts would result in cuts in services when in fact one has nothing to do with the other. Romney hasn't proposed any tax increases on people, and now they're saying he's gonna increase taxes on the middle class, he's gonna cut taxes on the rich. Right. And then these tax cuts are gonna result in a cut in services. How does cutting somebody's taxes result in a cut in government services? ...
We're $5.5 trillion in debt under Obama and growing. We have a national debt of $16 trillion. We are out of control. This is utterly irresponsible. This set of policies that's taken us here shows absolutely no respect for this country. No respect for the people of this country. No respect for this country's greatness or its past.
And certainly no respect for this country's future. The architect of all this is Barack Obama and his buddies in the Democrat Party. They have all this dumped on Romney... Look, I know some of you people are not excited about Romney. But let me tell you something. There is a shift, by the way, in Romney's campaign and in his strategy. He's going ideological. He started off yesterday or today in Ohio. But he's doing it. It's better late than never. He needs to do it. He needs to go ideological.
The "Obama Nice Guy" narrative is gone. They've tossed it overboard. But the bottom line, folks, is I don't care who you are. If you are a gay one-armed amputee on the Upper West Side having coffee at Zabar's right now, there's not one thing Mitt Romney's done to you yet. And there's not one thing Mitt Romney plans on doing to you. But whatever your economic circumstance is, Mitt Romney has had nothing to do with it. Zilch, zero, nada.
Everything that you live today is traceable right back to the Oval Office, right back to the White House. Every bit of this is Barack Obama. He's out there... People here on the other side of the glass are nervous that I called him a serial liar. Okay, forget that. Not serial liar. We'll go with "delusional." Does that make you feel better? He's delusional. Obama says he created 4.5 million jobs. Now, to arrive at that figure, 4.5 million jobs... It's absurd! The math doesn't work out.
There aren't any jobs being created on a net basis. We're losing jobs. There are more people unemployed today than there were when Obama took office. There are over 2.5 million fewer jobs to be had in this country since Obama took office! This idea that there's job growth, that Obama has created jobs? He wouldn't know how to create a job if he had to. He wouldn't know how to get a job if he had to. To come to this figure of 4.5 million jobs created you have to ignore all the people who've lost their jobs.
You have to ignore all the people who have dropped out of the workforce. The net figure, when everything is factored in (the best I've been able to find), is 1.3 million jobs lost. There's a universe of over two million jobs that have just gone away. Not jobs that were filled. Just the jobs from the universe of jobs, the labor force participation rate. It's down by two million. It's even worse when you consider that in four years, the working population of the country has increased by eight million or so.
We continue to graduate kids from college. We can argue about whether their degrees are worth anything, but they still graduate. We still have people coming out of high school who, theoretically, still want to go get jobs. We're still producing people who want to work, in the midst of an economic decline that (outside of the Great Depression) is unprecedented. And it has been authored! It is the direct result of specific policies implemented by Barack Obama.
It's his!
His fingerprints are all over this decline, all over this failure.
You consider that in four years the working population of this nation has increased by about eight million. That's the number of people who want to work since Obama was elected. Male participation in the workforce is the lowest it has been since 1948. Obama's out there claiming that he created 4.5 million jobs. Obama hasn't created anything. What's happened is destruction. What has happened is a chipping away of the greatest economic engine the world has ever known.
That's the net result of 3-1/2, almost four years of Barack Obama. Not job creation, not economic growth, not increased opportunity, not increased prosperity. There's none of that. None of that's on the horizon. That's why so many millions of Americans are literally fearful, literally scared of the future. And not just for them, but for their kids. These eight million people, they're somebody's kids! They're somebody's kids that are just entering the workforce.
Eight million of them are out there, and there's nowhere for 'em to go.
The jobs aren't there. (Obama impression) "But I created 4.5 million jobs since I took office. You didn't build that! You didn't make that happen." And while all this is going on, what's the big deal for Obama? Obama's out there claiming that he will ensure that the women of America have access to contraceptives. As though they don't now! As though Mitt Romney is standing at every Walgreens and preventing any woman that walks in from finding the birth control counter.
That's the picture he wants you to have. No matter what store you go into -- Walgreen, Walmart, CVS -- there's gonna be Mitt Romney hoarding the birth control pills so that you can't have 'em. Why? Because Mitt Romney wants you pregnant, barefoot, in the kitchen, rubbing your husband's back, massaging his feet while he's drinking beer or whatever and beating you up. Sadly, a significant portion of the female population of this country seems to react to that.
So here is our wonderful leader, Barack Obama, claiming that he will make sure that women have access to contraceptives. Is there a woman in America who wants contraceptives who cannot get them? Is there a woman in America who wants to have a birth control pill or who wants to have an abortion who can't? Does anybody with half a brain in this country think that a change in administration will somehow affect access to birth control pills? Apparently some do!

Who donates to the Clinton Global Initiative?
Hillary Clinton said yesterday... This according to the New York Times, and people were applauding and laughing while she said this. Quote: "You know, I'm out of American politics now." What? The secretary of state's out of American politics? When did that happen? I know it's the objective, but let's get real.Well...it does depend on what country you're talking about. The third world countries where the rulers have closets filled with shoes or ties...it's probably true. But in western countries...
She says, "You know I'm out of American politics now, but it's a fact that around the world the elites of every country are making money. There are rich people everywhere, and yet they don't contribute to the growth of their own countries. They don't invest in public schools. They don't invest in public hospitals and other kinds of development internally."
Really? Is that right?
Now, last time I was in New York I had to go visit somebody in the hospital, and it was named after somebody who donated the money to build the wing of the hospital. I think it was the Langone something or other, and then there's the Perlman. These rich people are donating entire wings of hospitals. Yeah, they get their names on 'em, but what is she talking about here? The rich "don't contribute to the growth of their own countries"?
Well, who the hell does, then?
"They don't invest in public schools"? For those of you who think that Hillary would be far preferable to Obama, they're both Alinskyites. They're both radicals on the left. She's just a big a fan of Alinsky. Her thesis or term paper, whatever, when she was at Wellesley was written on Alinsky. She's a big fan. So who is it that pays the taxes that build the schools and the hospitals and all these other "development internally"?
What is this? The poor build these things? Is that what they do? The poor, the middle class, they're the ones building everything? See, that's the meme. Elizabeth Warren gets it started. (Obama impression) "The rich? You didn't build that! You didn't make that happen. Somebody else built the roads! Somebody else built the bridges." And guess who it is? The downtrodden. Yep. People getting squished by the rich every day.
I never have liked Madonna...
MADONNA: Y'all better f#*king (bleeped) vote for Obama, okay? (edited cheers) For better or for worse, all right? We have a black Muslim in the White House. (edited cheers) Now that is some s#/t. (bleeped) That's some amazing s#/t. (bleeped) It means there is hope in this country. And Obama is fighting for gay rights, okay, (edited cheers) so support the man, (bleeped) G-damn-it. (edited cheers)"For better or worse?"
RUSH: And there you have it, another uplifting Obama endorsement, filled with profanity as Obama and his agents seek the dumb vote. I'm gonna have to read it to you. I have a transcript. Did you hear her say we have a black Muslim in the White House? You thought you heard that, you weren't sure? Well, let's listen to it again. I've got the transcript here. Let's listen to it again. "Y'all better push for, F-bombing Obama," she says, "Okay?" And then there are cheers, which we edited. The cheers went on and on and on. "For better or worse, all right, we have a black Muslim in the White House." More cheers, which we edited. Now, that is some... we bleeped that. That's some amazing... and we bleeped that. "It means there's hope in this country. We got a F bombing black Muslim president, and that's some (bleep) and that gives us hope. And Obama's fighting for gay rights, okay?" And more cheers, which we edited. "So support the man."
I'd say worse.
Not that Obama is a Muslim - if he were a Muslim he wouldn't have a dog (they hate dogs) and he wouldn't drink beer.
More Reparations from Obama's USDA
RUSH: It's from Chatsworth Osborne Jr.'s website, The Daily Caller. "As part of 'a new era of civil rights' at the Department of Agriculture, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced Monday that Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who believe," simply believe, "USDA discriminated against them can file claims to get a piece of at least $1.33 billion in cash awards and tax relief payments and up to $160 million in farm debt relief, beginning this week.
"Women and Hispanic ranchers and farmers..." You know, there gobs of 'em out there. There are women ranchers all over the place and Hispanic ranchers everywhere out there. "Women and Hispanic ranchers and farmers who feel the agency denied their loan or loan servicing applications because of their race or gender at various periods from 1981 to 2000 can file claims alleging discrimination from Sept. 24, 2012, to March 25, 2013, for a slice of the payout. ...
"In February 2011, Vilsack announced the historic 'path to justice for Hispanic and women farmers' to offer them an outlet to receive compensation for past wrongs without having to go to federal court," without having to prove discrimination. All these people have to do is say they think they were discriminated against and they get some money. This is buying votes during the election from Obama's stash.
Now, this is all part of the Pigford settlement. You remember the black farmers were the first bunch to be able to claim this. Remember what was her name, Shirley something or other? I forget her name. This was a big cause celebre of Andrew Breitbart's, if I recall. Breitbart proved that there were a bunch of people that had never been farmers who were claiming they were discriminated against as farmers. Shirley Sherrod. That's right. So these people...
It's reparations, in a disguised way. All of this stems from Ronaldus Magnus having done away with the civil rights division in the loan office of the USDA in 1981. The laws against discrimination were still on the books, there was still a civil rights division in the Department of Justice, but because there was no civil rights division present at the agriculture department, it's assumed that there was discrimination. Nothing has to be proved!
Honestly, folks, nothing has to be proved. It was just assumed that there was discrimination. "If there was a black farmer, he had to be discriminated against." Now, if there's an Hispanic farmer, he had to be discriminated against. We don't need any proof. We just know it happened because America's a rotten country. A female rancher? Don't have to prove discrimination! We know it happened because she was a woman. America's unfair to women, and so, here's your money.
That is what the Pigford settlement is all about. It's just the assumption that America is unfair and discriminatory. There was never any proof that there was discrimination in the USDA. It was just assumed. So this suit, the Pigford suit, goes back to Reagan taking the civil rights division in the loan office out of the USDA. Now, apparently there were hundreds of thousands of farmers from all walks of life who were discriminated against by the loan department of the USDA in those 18 years between 1981 and 1999.
Now, if that's true, who was doing the discriminating? The government! Government bureaucrats. Who knew they were so damn bigoted? And what was the USDA doing giving out loans, anyway? Were there no banks to do this? So this is outrageous to me. The agricultural department under Obama is opening up a new line of giveaway money, this time to Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who "believe" that USDA discriminated against them.
I'm not making this up, folks. They don't have to have any proof. There isn't any. It was just assumed. That's what the whole Pigford case was about. It was just assumed that there was disc'imination. (interruption) Well, if you think you were discriminated against, can you claim it? No, 'cause you weren't a farmer, Snerdley. Well... (laughing) You grow fruit? In your backyard, you grow crops? Well, for all I know, you could make a claim! Well, no. No. No. 'Cause it's 1981 to 1999, when Reagan shut it down. It's '81 to '99. That's when this covers.

The 1988 tape
That whole 1998 tape has surfaced, the one in which Obama talked about loving redistribution and so forth. Well, there's another aspect of it, and it's exactly what this campaign is. He says in 1998 what he believes a winning coalition is. Welfare recipients would be a majority coalition for somebody. It's exactly what he's doing. That's his campaign, and we pointed it out to you. This is October 19th in Chicago, 1998. Loyola University, then-state senator The One.I dunno, I would think making $30,000 a year is pretty good. You've got husband and wife, and two kids presumably. That's not poor - unless they live in some wealthy neigbhorhood where all their income goes to paying their rent. Here's a tip...just move somewhere cheaper!OBAMA: What I think will re-engage people in politics is if we’re doing significant, serious policy work around what I will label the "working poor," although my definition of the working poor is not simply folks making minimum wage, but it’s also families of four who are making $30,000 a year. They are struggling. And to the extent that we are doing research figuring out what kinds of government action would successfully make their lives better, we are then putting together a potential majority coalition to move those agendas forward.

Will Skewed Polls Backfire?
The mainstream media is all for Obama...and so every article points out that Romney is losing in the polls, Romney's campaign is in disarray, etc.
And like Rush had said yesterday...what about Obama's campaign? Does no one on the Democrat side care that this guy is out on the campaign trail every single night instead of actually doing his job?
As more and more articles come out saying Romney is leading in the polls...I wonder if that will depress the Democrat vote - why bother to vote if he's going to win anyway, and gin up support on the Republican side - we'd all better vote if we want to get this guy out of office...
Anyway, here's the latest from the Christian Science Monitor:
From Christian Science Monitir: Sarah Palin’s advice to Mitt Romney: 'Go rogue'
Mitt Romney has been getting lots of gratuitous advice from fellow Republicans and conservatives worried about what they see as a presidential campaign that’s slipping toward defeat.
As usual, Sarah Palin is the most direct and colorful. In a statement to the Weekly Standard on Saturday, she put it this way:
"With so much at stake in this election, both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan should 'go rogue' and not hold back from telling the American people the true state of our economy and national security. They need to continue to find ways to break through the filter of the liberal media to communicate their message of reform."
"America desperately needs to have a 'come to Jesus' moment in discussing our big dysfunctional, disconnected, and debt-ridden federal government," the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate told the conservative magazine.
Are you more (or less) conservative than Mitt Romney? Take our quiz!
To some Republican kibitzers, “going rogue” means unleashing Rep. Paul Ryan, Mr. Romney’s running mate and a relative youngster who seemed to bring some pizzazz to an otherwise staid ticket.
“They not only need to use [Ryan] out on the trail more effectively, they need to have more of him rub off on Mitt because I think Mitt thinks that way but he’s gotta be able to articulate that…. I think too many people are restraining him from telling [his vision],” Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker told a radio interviewer Friday.
Where’s the evidence of Romney’s so-called “bold choice” in picking Ryan? others ask.
“Even in Wisconsin, I think he’s being underused,” Charlie Sykes, the radio host who interviewed Gov. Walker, told Politico. “I guess what’s frustrating is especially now that we’re embroiled in this conversation about the makers versus the takers, where is Paul Ryan? He is eloquent, he knows the numbers, he can frame this in a very compelling way. The fact that he is not front and center on some of this is, I think, a lost opportunity.”
Even in Wisconsin – Ryan’s home state – an NBC poll shows Obama leading Romney by 5 percentage points, and that’s just part of recent polling news the Romney campaign must find troubling
As the Monitor’s Mark Trumbull reported this week, Obama leads Romney in eight out of nine swing states where the two are in tight contests: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin. North Carolina is the only one where Mr. Romney currently has an edge.
Unleashing Ryan may not be the answer, of course. As House Budget Committee chairman, he authored a plan that was controversial – particularly for what it portended for Medicare, the health care program for seniors. He tried to explain it at an AARP meeting this week, but was booed by many in the audience.
Apparently, that wasn’t just a one-time deal in a room full of retirees. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll this week shows Obama leading Romney by 10 points (47-37) in dealing with Medicare.
It’s a law of all organizations – including (maybe especially) political campaigns – that when things are tough, infighting and finger-pointing will ensue. Politico’s must-read scoop last Sunday – “Inside the campaign: How Mitt Romney stumbled” – set off something similar among conservative pundits.
Weekly Standard editor William Kristol called Romney’s comments about “the 47 percent” who presumably would never vote for him because they pay no federal income taxes “stupid and arrogant.” Rush Limbaugh complained that “every Democrat under the sun's retweeting that all over the place,” that too many conservative fellow travelers who once supported Romney “have bailed on him.”
Over at the Wall Street Journal’s editorial page, columnist and former Reagan speech writer Peggy Noonan wrote, “It’s time to admit the Romney campaign is an incompetent one.”
Then she revised her estimation: “This week I called it incompetent, but only because I was being polite,” she wrote. “I really meant ‘rolling calamity.’"
That left Chris Wallace at Fox News questioning Ms. Noonan’s “conservative bona fides.”
“Sometimes they’re New York City’s idea of conservatives,” Mr. Wallace said of Noonan and others similarly critical of the Romney campaign. Ouch. And here we thought such intramural squabbles were principally the province of Democrats.
