Various conservative sites...as for example Glen Beck's The Blaze, has the headline, "Obama says he's the fourth best president."
And of course there's all this outrage.
But do these people think we won't read the entire article?
Obama is saying that *in terms of foreign policy* his accomplishments in his first two years are comparable to what any presidents have done except Lincoln, Lyndon Johnson (really???) and FDR.
He then goes on to say that in terms of the ECONOMY, he's still got a long way to go!
So he's not saying he's the 4th best President. (Although I have no doubt he believes he is - but he didn't say it!)
I really wish these sites wouldn't seize on everything Obama says and tweak and torque it into meaning something it doesn't. At least in their headlines. Because when people read the articles and find out that Obama hasn't really done this or that and that they are distorting things... that's where the lack of trust comes in.
Now, of course, there's a bit of ego there. I don't deny that. And one can really look askance at his foreign policy - yeah he killed Bin Laden and he assisted in the "war crime" that killed Ghadafy, and he's probably ensured that fundamentalist Islam will be growing stronger in those countries.... for that alone he is probably congratulating himself...
"The issue here is not gonna be a list of accomplishments. As you said yourself, Steve, you know, I would put our legislative and foreign policy accomplishments in our first two years against any president -- with the possible exceptions of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln -- just in terms of what we've gotten done in modern history. But, you know, but when it comes to the economy, we've got a lot more work to do. And we're gonna keep on at it," President Obama told "60 Minutes" in their "Overtime" segment.
