Mainstream media legitimizes "End of the World" predictions

Time magazine published an article about Harold Camping in its latest issue. He's the guy who has been preaching that the world is coming to an end tomorrow.

His ideas deserve no credence, but they're in Time. Probably in all the major papers, too.

Someone on a message board told a story the other day. Someone with a placard was touting the end of the world a couple of days ago, so this guy asked him to give him his wallet. "If the world is going to end you won't need your money anymore, right?"

But the placard wearer just swore at him.

Anyway, this is what Camping said:
"In a comfortable office, Bible placed firmly atop his lap, 89-year-old Harold Camping is preaching with utter certainty about the end of the world. 'May 21, 2011, is the day of judgment.'"

If it is the Day of Judgement, wouldn't it be amusing if we all got to judge God? Point out our dissatisfaction with the inept way he's been running this planet for the last 4,000 years?

Camping also said:
On that day, Camping estimates roughly 207 million people, or about 3% of the world's population, will be plucked from the earth," they will be saved. "What will follow is five months of earthquakes and other calamities until the world officially ends on Oct. 21 of this year."

October 21st is my birthday. I wonder if that's a coincidence?
