In What Way is the Immigration System broken?

On the President's website today, where I get the schedules I post here, this was one of his stops:
"The President delivers a speech on importance of fixing the broken immigration system for our nation’s 21st century economic and security needs so that America can win the future "

That's the same text that is used on the schedule whenever he talks about our immigration system, and is apparently the thrust of his argument - that the immigration system is broken.

It may well be broken - but in which way? For President Obama and the Democrats, they think that not enough illegal aliens are being let into the country and put immediately onto welfare. For Republicans, they think that if the government would just enforce the laws we've got, that would go a long way toward solving the problem.

Perception is everything. In the same way, Rush will sometimes report polls that show that Obama has an approval level of less than 40%. Now, why are his approval levels so low?

Republicans disapprove becauses they think he's going too far.

Democrats disapprove because they think he's not going far enough. (I had to laugh at those gay demonstraters who hecked Obama at one of his speeches. He's doing his best to get them their rights, and they're booing him because it's taking him months instead of a day. Kind of ungrateful of them...)

So although the Democrats don't approve of him, they'll still likely vote for him.
