The world didn't end yesterday. (Although, apparently Camping never said the world would end yesterday. That isn't going to happen until October 21. What he said was the Rapture would occur - a few thousand people on Earth, including him, would be brought up to heaven, where they'd avoid the destruction that would be happening here for the next 5 months.)
Anyway, not only Camping's believers are being mocked, but also Christians in general. And while I myself, as an atheist, don't believe in God, I'm always surprised when people in the US mock certain aspects of the Christian church, but have absolutely nothing to say about Islam. Islam folk believe, let us not forget, that if they die in a holy war they will go to heaven where they will be feted by 57 virgins. (Why 57, I wonder?)
And the religious right is often criticized for their hatred of gays..but let us not forget that to be gay in an Islamic country is to be dead. Quite possibly through the application of quite a few heavy rocks to the skull.
There's no doubt that the status of women in a Christian-secular country is 1,000 percent higher than what it is in an Islamic country, even a secular one - if there are any secular Islamic countries left.
I wouldn't mind folks in the US mocking Christians so much, if they didn't, the very next second, criticize you and call you a bigot if you dare to point out a few home truths about Islam...
Something not quite right there...
