There needs to be a war on the poor

The Democrats often accuse the Republicans of "fighting a war on the poor," cutting their benefits and ensuring that they live in poverty.

No - what the Republicans are doing by cutting the benefits to the poor is trying to get them to go to work!

But of course they can't go to work because they can barely read or write, and can't do math, so there are very few jobs open to them. They can't go into the landscaping or construction businesses - businesses that don't really need people to read or write - because illegal immigrants are doing those jobs. So what jobs can they get? None.

The answer isn't to put them on welfare and keep them in idleness (and I'm speaking generally. Obviously there is a percentage of the poor who are fighting to get out of poverty, but the vast majority - third generation welfare recipients - don't know any other way of life. And don't make the mistake of thinking, "That's racist," as if the only poor are minorities. There are plenty of white folk on welfare as well - plenty of towns that have high unemployment, where people refuse to leave to find employment elsewhere. Why should they - just go on welfare. Other people get away with it...why shouldn't they?

Welfare needs to be abolished and workfare put in its place. Kids who drop out of school - put 'em to work immediately rebuiding the country's infrastructure. That hard work might make them beg to go back to school where they can get an education and go get a nice comfy desk job!
