Do Plain But Brilliant Women Have A Right to Be Angry That Beautiful But Dumb Women Get it All?

Gloria Steinem paraphrased what Rush had said about Sarah Palin vs Hilary Clinton a couple of years ago. Frankly, I think she paraphrased it pretty accurately.
STEINEM: But that's also why they're there, because, as Rush Limbow (sic), your friend and mine, said that he was for Sarah Palin because she wore skirts and had good legs, so she should be vice president. He was against Hillary Clinton for president because she wore pantsuits and must have bad legs. This was his whole basis.

MAUDE: Yeah.

RUSH: Now, of course, I never said any of that. That's not what I said. We're gonna play for you what I said. That's not what I said. I didn't say they're qualified for any of those liens. You want to hear what I said? (laughing) This is what Gloria Steinem remembers. This is from September 2nd 2008.

RUSH ARCHIVE: [S]he's a woman's woman, and she's a babe. She can wear skirts. She's got definable ankles. She has high heels, and she had her baby four months ago. Well, look it, that comment may bother some of you, but we're talking about why they're mad. Don't forget, Undeniable Truth of Life Number 24, folks, written by me in 1987: "Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream." It's almost like Obama all over, except this woman is young, Obama was young. This woman's clean, articulate, looks good, all the guys swoon; and the Hillary babes are stuck at the secretary's desk again with no chance to move up and get promoted because somebody's always coming along. It's so unfortunate. I think a lot of militant feminists are trying to change basic human nature because they think nature was so unkind to them in the first place. So there's a lot rolled into this, but it is clear one thing is unmistakable: They hate Sarah Palin. They hate her. And if you want to be honest with yourself, there's more than just politics involved as to why. And that's all I'm telling you. I'm sharing with you how they think, not I think. Folks, don't doubt me, you should know by now.

RUSH: That's what Gloria Steinem remembered. So what did she hear me say?

And you've got to admit, there is more to just politics as to why many women dislike Palin (but many men dislike her as well - which doesn't prevent them wanting to "do her" as they say.)

There are many female politicians who have served in the Senate for years, have tons more experience than Palin, and yet weren't selected to be Vice President.

Sarah Palin, the mayor of a little town called Wasilla before becoming governor of Alaska, is selected as Vice Presidential candidate and all of a sudden the media is all over her.... for one reason only, she's extremely attractive.

And of course that's mostly what the media - and men, of course - focused on. She's got good ankles, she can wear heels, she had her baby 4 months ago and had already slimmed back down - god forbid we should have a chubby female vice president.

Women are angry beause, as Rush aptly put it, "basic human nature." By that he most assuredly meant Man's basic nature. A woman can be dumb as a stump, but as long as she's pretty and has a good body, has "sex appeal" she can rise far on that. Whereas the "plain" women who are brilliant and would be great for the country, they don't get a look in.

A few weeks ago some Republican said Michele Bachman had sex appeal. He apologized the next day, and Bachman didn't make a fuss. "I've had 5 kids, if a man still thinks I've got sex appeal, I'm happy." (I paraphrase, but that's the gist of what she said.)

But you never hear male politicians talked about that way. They don't have to worry about their ankles, or if they've got an incipient paunch, or what have you. (Well, they do have to worry about Rush's insults for them - calling Kerry Lurch, and John Edwards "the Breck girl", but that's just Rush. As far as the mainstream media is concerned, men's looks are never mentioned in connection with whether or not they're fit to run the country, women's looks are.

And that's not the way it should be, but anyone who tries to raise people's consciousnesses in that regard are referred to as 'the new castrati' by Rush.

Having said that, I don't deny women participate in their own degredation in that regard, although there again it's very difficult to stand on your own two feet when you've been inculcated since babyhood with the knowledge that women exist only to be eye candy to men. Take the clothes little kids wear. Girls wear short shorts right up to their butts, boys wear shorts that extend past their knees.

Take a look at the TV shows that are aimed at kids. There's nothing in them about girls finding careers, standing on their own two feet first before finding a boyfriend, a husband, and kids in that order...every single show is about how important it is for a girl to have a boy friend, not beat a boy at any sport or in school, and so on. And if a girl dares to be "bossy" - well, that's just her being a girl, not because she might know what's best for whatever project the kids might be working on....
