"Get Moving" Blamed For Pedestrian Deaths

Here's Rush's comment. My own follows below.

Story #1: Michelle's "Get Moving" Blamed for Pedestrian Deaths

RUSH: "The Governors Highway Safety Association says pedestrian deaths increased in the first half of 2010 and the First Lady's program to get Americans to be more active could be partly responsible. Governors Highway Safety Administration spokesman Jonathan Adkins told 630 WMAL that Michelle Obama is 'trying to get us to walk to work and exercise a little bit more. While that's good, it also increases our exposure to risk.'" More of us are getting mowed down out there following her dictates. My words, not the station's.

How ridiculous is this? To blame any death on Michele Obama's "Get Moving" campaign is ridiculous. If someone is walking, that means they're not taking a car, so car accidents are less. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

There's a lot to criticize in Mrs. Obama's "Get Moving" - although the general concept is sound, we do need to exercise more - but to be forced to do it is outrageous - but blaming pedestrian deaths on it? Ridiculous. One might just as easily blame road rage because drivers have to pay more for gas, so they're annoyed and angry and not paying attention so when a pedestriant walks out in front of them, this time they're more likely to not notice them.

Ridiculous conclusions by Governors Highway Safety Administration Spokesman Jonathan Adkins, and all too representative of how a lack of critical thinking is rampant in all levels of society.
