Chicago Politics

Rush commented on this article about Bill Clinton showing up at a rally for Rahm Emmanuel today. It's funny. Blacks for some reason don't get along with Jews, but Emmanuel was the Chief of Staff for Obama, so he gains points there. But...he's not black. And apparently the mayor of Chicago should be black.

Here's the article from Reuters.

Bill Clinton campaigns for Emanuel in Chicago race
(Reuters) - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton campaigned in Chicago on Tuesday for his former adviser Rahm Emanuel, who seeks to become the city's mayor.

Appearing before a cheering crowd, which the Emanuel campaign placed at 700, Clinton said Chicago is "critical to America's future."

"You need a big person for this job," said Clinton. "Now, Rahm's not even six feet tall. He's probably 150 pounds dripping wet. But in all things that matter, he's a really big person."

Clinton joked about Emanuel's reputation for intensity, and his occasional salty way of expressing himself.

"He was always fearlessly honest in meetings with me," Clinton said. "He never shirked to say, sometimes in extremely colorful language, when he thought I was wrong... He will be fearlessly honest with you."

Former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun, who is also running for mayor, has criticized Clinton's support for Emanuel.

She told reporters last month that Emanuel is an "outsider" who needs to bring in outsiders to help him.

Responding to the "outsider" charge, Clinton said people who worked with Emanuel knew his heart was in Chicago. Clinton also quoted from his own memoir that Emanuel believed Chicago should be "capital of the world."

Braun, who is black, warned that Clinton could risk his relationship with African-Americans by supporting Emanuel, according to local media reports.

But Tori Collins, 34, of Chicago, a worker for Emanuel, said he benefits among black voters by having been the chief of staff to the nation's first black president.

"It makes a big difference. They know he shares the president's values," Collins said
