Rush mentioned this story today:
Tabloid Tracks Down Homeless Man Who Borrowed AmEx
A homeless man asked a woman for money. She said she didn't have any cash and loaned him her Amex card. He went away, bought stuff with it, and returned it to her 15 minutes later.
What is wrong with this picture?
In the first place, it's not a "heartwarming story." It's a story of stupidity. Yes, this particular guy was honest, but for every 1 honest guy there are 99 people just waiting to steal this woman's identity, credit card et al.
In the second place, why didn't she just stop in at a local ATM and get a cash advance to give to the guy. Why give him her credit card?
Thirdly, how was he able to buy $25 worth of goods in New York City. He was a guy, he had a credit card with a woman's name on it. Did no one ask him for an ID? In New York City? That's the most worrying thing of all.
