Dumbth: The Lost Art of Thinking Rule #18: Develop the old fashioned virtue of humility
The virtue of humility has important relevance in the context of any serious attempt to improve our intelligence. The reason for this is that many of the things upon which we most fervently insist involve only probabilities, not certainties. And, of course, regarding some of our opinions and opinions, we are simply mistaken. Therefore, we must be less opinionated, less dogmatic, more willing to "listen to reason" and the dictates of evidence.
