August 10 primary - Connecticut

Wilton Bulletin: Aug. 10 primary: It’s not too late to affiliate

Both major political parties in Connecticut — Democratic and Republican — will hold primary elections on Aug. 10. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Republican ballot includes six races: Governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, U.S. senator, representative in Congress, and registrar of voters. The Democratic ballot includes races for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of the state, and comptroller. Voters may check Wilton’s Web site for a sample ballot of each at wiltonct.org.

Wilton’s Registrars of Voters Tina Gardner and Carole Young-Kleinfeld remind voters that Thursday, Aug. 5, is the mail-in deadline for unaffiliated voters to join a political party in order to vote in that party’s primary election on Aug. 10. The deadline for in-person party enrollment is noon on Aug. 9.

Unaffiliated voters — sometimes called independent voters — are those who have not been enrolled in any political party for at least three months.

To join a political party, electors may complete a new voter registration card and mark “Party Change” at the top.
