Of course he's just spinning this out of whole cloth. The Dems haven't gotten to that point yet.
On the other hand, I am surprised that there is no outrage here from people who see their choices for what their kids can and can't eat being taken out of their hands. But then...if the schools provide these free lunches (and dinners), half of the country won't have to, and of course they are just happy as clams about that. Let the country feed their kids what they want - as long as they themselves don't have to pay for it, what do they care?
RUSH: "Congress is fighting to keep pizza and french fries on school lunch lines, picking apart an Obama administration proposal to make school lunches healthier. A spending bill released late Monday would unravel school lunch standards proposed by the Agriculture Department earlier this year, forcing USDA to pull back an attempt to limit potatoes on the lunch line, delaying limits on sodium and delaying a requirement to boost whole grains. The spending bill also would allow tomato paste on pizzas to be counted as a vegetable, as it is now."
Do you believe this? With all that's going on, this is the stuff occupying everybody's minds. You got Michelle Obama over in Hawaii urging people to eat arugula with steak. That makes steak okay. All of these people butting in with what they think your kids ought to eat and where. And what they're trying to say here in this story, I guarantee you, I'm not gonna read the whole thing because I've got limited time here, but here's a quote from Amy Dawson Taggart from some interest group about this. "We are outraged that Congress is seriously considering language that would effectively categorize pizza as a vegetable in the school lunch program. It doesn't take an advanced degree in nutrition to call this a national disgrace."
I'll tell you what they're setting up here, and you might be saying, "Rush, why are you talking about it?" I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We've been through this with Republicans and school lunches. You take a look. "Congress pushes back on healthier school lunches." By the way, no word here on school dinner. "Congress fighting to keep pizza and French fries." That means Republicans fighting to keep pizza and French fries on school lunch lines on the menu. I'm gonna tell you what's being set up here: Republicans want to continue to feed children junk food so that they will continue to be obese. Republicans want dirty air.
