Story #8: Sniveling Lib Rips Wall Street at Epidemic Awards
RUSH: I don't know if you watched the Epidemic Awards. Did you watch them Sunday night? I saw a little bit of them. This guy has this documentary, Inside Job, about the financial crisis. He won the Oscar and he gets up there with his acceptance speech. He's this sniveling little liberal. (imitating Charles Ferguson) "Not one financial executive has gone to jail since the 2008 economic meltdown, and that is just wrong." The audience applauded. Wall Street finances your business! And have you ever heard of Bernard Madoff, who is in jail? Fannie Mae is still running, for crying out loud. (laughing) "Not one financial executive has gone to jail, and that is just wrong." He had this look of pride on his face like he'd really said something profound and brave.
And what I want to know is, why aren't the people who ran Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in jail? Bush wanted to do an investigation on them years ago, but was stymied by Barney Frank and Maxine Waters who said, "No, no, they're running just fine, there's no need to regulate them." Why aren't they in jail? How is it possible that they, who are responsible for the debacle, can get away with blaming Bush for it?
At the very least, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, and the folks who headed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were inept, and should be fired. Instead, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guys have been rewarded with positions in the new regime! (And I have no doubt that if a Republican gets into office in the next election, he/she will also reward them with plush jobs!)
Ineptness may not deserve prison time, but it should not be rewarded.
