When to wean a kid off the mom's breast?

The most recent issue of TIME magazine features a beautiful mother, and a suckling boy who is six or seven.

I'm not going to read the article, but I have heard of this before - some pediatricians (or at least one) advocates moms suckling their kids until they're 10 or even older!

And yes, that is sick. Once a kid can grasp a bottle, or at the very latest, sit up in a high chair and hold a spoon, it's time to wean him off the breast. (I thought it was interesting that it was a boy still suckling, rather than a girl. Playing in to man's fantasy of suckling on the breast when they're all grown up.

At the same time that I'm writing this, I'm watching CSI. Years ago, when William Petersen was the star, as Gil Grissom, I liked the show for the most part - liked Grissom. But they would always do these weird sex shows - that are "ripped from the headlines" of actual sex practices - although probably (hopefully) only in California and New York.

And one of the episodes introduced the recurring character of Mistress...some name - a dominatrix. And one episode ended with Grissom actually going to her house, and being let in by her. Apparently the thinking is a guy is so in control in his business life, he likes to give up that control and be dominated sexually by a woman in his private life. Gotta tell you, as soon as they did that episode I lost all respect (and interest!) in Grissom. I'd feel the same if a female character whom I liked - say Emma Peel, submitted to domination by a guy. It's just...a distortion of the way people should interact with each other.

(This current ep has people pretending to be animals, petted by their "owners." All those people should be in psychiatrists offices!).
