Gays are just like straights

I was reading on the Hannity boards yesterday. There's quite a few threads there on gay marriage. A lot of folks say, "Why should gays be allowed to get married," "What are we going to do about the gay mafia" etc. etc., as if gays were people who aren't regular human beings who just happen to be gay. Like that quote from Shylock - "have we not dimensions, senses,"..."If you poison us, do we not die?"

I don't actually know any gays, though I have in the past...but I do read message boards in which a lot of openly gay folks post - various film and musical theater boards - and if you read what they post, they are exactly like everybody else. They have boyfriends, ex boyfriends, whatever, whom they love. Many have been in the same relationship for decades. They're hurt by what is said about gays being "sinners" - about them being thought of as second class citizens who don't deserve to get married, etc.

Sure, there are some weird gay folks out there - just as their are some pretty weird straight folks out there. 99% of the parents who abuse their kids are straight, eh? For every gay who molests a child, there are a hundred straight guys who molest a little girl...

People are people.
