Shouldn't All Politicians Have An "Attack Watch" Website?

President Obama's "Attack Watch" website opened either yesterday or today, and apparently - according to an article in the Washington post - it has backfired tremendously and everyone's making fun of it.

Well, I know Rush is.

But I don't see it that way. To me, it makes a lot of sense - not only for Obama but for every politician.

First off, a lot of people are characterizing the site as something where if an individual says something insulting about Obama, they are supposed to be reported to the Attack Watch website.

That's not it at all. If someone hears a news item that mischaracterizes something Obama - and/or, presumably, his family, the campaign folk want to hear about it so they can "tell the truth" on their website.

I would think that every politician, whether Democrat or Republican, would want such a site to counteract any smears made by their opponents. For example Rick Perry is getting hit by accusations of crony capitalism over the HPV virus - he can put up the facts about this on his website so that people can check it out for themselves.

And let's not forget that most people these days - well, young people, anyway - get most of their facts from internet news sites rather than print news sites, and since anyone can start up a "news" site on the net and write anything they want, it only makes sense to have a site where these folks can go to see the "rest of the story" or "the truth." (Or at least, the truth according to that particular politician. A politician's truth and "the" truth are not necessarily inclusive.)

One of the Republican politicians who commented about Obama's new "Attack Watch" said it made him look paranoid. I don't see that, either. Every single one of Obama's policies is under attack, mostly by Republicans but by the occasional Democrat. If Obama wants "the truth" out there -if he feels it's different from what his opponents are portraying it as - then that's just common sense.

And, again, is what every politician should be doing.

I did think it was funny, I admit. When you first go to the website there's a pop up screen where you can join to get emails alerting you to news, and right after that you get a request for making a donation to keep the website running. I'm thinking, "Jeez, man, why not just pay for the website out of your own pocket. Take one less vacation - that should give you enough money to be able to afford it!"
