An independent view of the politics of the day, using the Rush Limbaugh radio program for a springboard. I agree with much of Limbaugh's analyses of political events, American exceptionalism, and so on, but disagree with a lot, too.

Norman Rockwell's The Problem We All Live With
President Obama is going to view Norman Rockwell's "The Problem We All Live With Today." It's a painting from 1964, depicting the Civil Rights movement - a cute little black girl having to be escorted to school by some men, walking past offensive graffiti on the way.
One hopes it was a powerful statement at that time, but does the President really need to look at fifty years later, when he, a black man, is President of this country?
Shouldn't he rather be looking at current photos of black and Latino gang members facing off with knives and guns? Shouldn't he be looking at photos of schools in the Atlanta school district, where for 10 years kids were cheated out of their education - not by white educators, either? Shouldn't he be looking at the test scores for police officer tests in various cities around the country, where standards had to be lowered so black applicants could be accepted [instead of the common sense thing of just having the guys/gals take remedial classes until their education was up to snuff, and then re-testing?]
Why hark back to the Civil Rights efforts of the 1960s, when the problems today have nothing to do with segregation - except perhaps the voluntary segregation by blacks into their 'hoods because they don't intend to work or help "the man", but only take his money (in welfare) as their due?
There's a percentage of successful blacks, as there's a percentage of Latinos, who "embrace" Middle Classness and the American dream, and then there are those who persist in the victim mentality and the belief that the "man" should have to continue to pay them for past injustices done fifty years ago or more.
And no, it's not all their fault. Our government is the entity that should have known better than to put them on the government teat to begin with. Anyone - regardless of race, creed or color - who goes on the government teat soon has their ambition and desire to improve themselves via education and ambition - stripped away - as well. And our whole country is going that way...witness the 50% of our citizens - obviously of all races - who pay no taxes today!
