As Expected, Birth Certificate Doubters Cast as Racists

"Race sparking Obama debate" "Racial undertones od Obama Birth Debate"

That's the two headlines of the Yahoo news article today. Did I predict this yesterda
y? I believe I did!

What's the facts? Obama is the first black president, yes, but he's also the first President for 200+ years to have a father born in a different country. He's the first president who was raised in Indonesia (or any foreign country) as a child. With his early years so murky, and with the fact that a US President must have been born in the US, it just makes sense to want to see his real birth certificate - the kind of thing we all have to show if we want a passport! What doesn't make sense is that he refused to show it for so long, which fueled the doubts about it. That's not racism, that's human nature.

But it's just like the illegal alien debate. People are coming into this country illegally from Mexico. Because they're coming in illegally, and yet being given benefits like any citizen, a lot of people want it stopped, because, like, you know, they're here illegally.

But because they're Latino and Hispanic, a lot of other people want them to remain because it's racist to return them to their own countries. And anyone who does want them sent back is just so obviusly racist! As is wanting them to speak English, apparently, even though they are in a country where if you want a good job, chances are 99% that you have to be able to speak English well. Unless you're an athlete or a rap singer, of course. And that's less than 1% of the overall population.

There was a fuss a few weeks ago - it's died down now as far as I can tell - where Attorney General Holder told the States's state departments that too many blacks were failing the entrance exams. Instead of sending those applicants to remedial school to learn whatever skills they were lacking, he simply ordered that the passing bar be lowered, so that more blacks could get in.

It's all in your perception. According to Holder, since so many blacks failed the test, the test must be racist. According to the people giving the test, they wanted quality people in the jobs being offered and a good grade on the tests would assure that (for the most part, of course.)

Holder doesn't seem to want to address the issues that blacks are failing in school not because there is some instituted racism against them, but because young blacks - like young whites - are very impressionable. In the poor black communities, to get an education, to speak English rather than ebonics, to want to become a member of the middle class, is seen as a betrayal of one's "people" - and any black kid who attempts to do it is beaten down and excoriated by his own "side," if I may so call them.

That's the culture Holder has to fix, for, as he calls them, "his people."
