Just watched Louis Oosthuizen tee off his ball from the first tee. It took a funny bounce, hit the ground, bounced straight up, and then right back into the divot where it had first hit, so it was half buried in the dirt.
Instead of having to play it as it lay - as he'd have to do if it had landed in somoene else's divot, he got to "take a drop" right next to the divot, and hit it from there. Because it was in his "pitch mark" as opposed to someone else's pitch mark, or divot, he was able to "get relief."
And that is so bogus! Whether it was his pitch mark or someone else's should have made no difference, IMHO. Play it where it lays.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson, whom I was hoping would do very well today, started with a bogey. Damn you, Phil!
