Rush is off today, as is only right and proper. On weekends and on days like these, the "Best of Rush" is played. But that's really a misnomer...all they do is play one of Rush's programs from earlier on in the week.
That's not what I'd like to hear from a "Best of Rush" program.
What I'd like to hear is...well...the best of Rush!
In all his years hosting his radio program, can they not cull out 3 hours worth of material on how to start a business...how to maintain a business...what creates jobs... things of that nature.
And play that program on days like these.
I think that'd help people a lot more than just a repeat of a past show.

Happy Thanksgiving
A day of football for a lot of us, family bonding for others.

Jimmy Fallon's Band Disses Michelle Bachman
If Michelle Obama had been a guest on the program (although she wouldn't and one wonders why Michelle Bachman would want to be, if it is, as Rush says, a program with low ratings) and the band had played this song, they'd undoubtedly be fired for being racist.
I've been unable to find out what music group actually first created this song...but I dare say it's a rapper.
Anyway, here's what Rush had to say:

You probably have heard by now that Michele Bachmann was a guest on Jimmy Fallon's very low rated NBC late, late, late-night show; comedy show. When she was introduced and came out to assume her seat, the house band played a song. They didn't sing the lyrics, but the title of the song "Lying Assed B-i-itch."
So here comes the only female candidate for president of the United States, a Republican, who was introduced this way. She doesn't know what's going on; she didn't pay attention to the song being played. The drummer in the group tweets the next day that they had done this, laughing about it, yukking it up. Fallon sends out a tweet later saying the drummer's been "grounded," but clearly they were having a great time with it. It was disrespectful, a 100% diss: "Lyin' Assed B-i-itch." To put this in perspective, Hillary wasn't even on the show, and they have this song, "Lyin' Assed B-i-itch!" Now, you watch, I'm gonna get in trouble for equating Hillary with this.
Meanwhile, a major television network, NBC -- a major television network -- does this to the only woman candidate for president, and it is either totally ignored or laughed off as good, clean fun. Can you imagine if Hillary Clinton were a guest on Huckabee's show on Saturday night on Fox (you know, Huckabee musical guest) and can you imagine if Huckabee's band played "Lyin' Assed B-i-itch" as Hillary is walking out after being introduced? Can you imagine the eruption in the media, particularly if Hillary was running for president? I also checked out the NAGs' website, the National Association of Gals. They have nothing up on their site about this, even though the story is now two days old. However, one of their top articles at the NAG website is, "Cain Sexual Harassment in the Campaign Against Women in Public Life."
But the "woman in public life" they're so concerned with at the NAG website is Nancy Pelosi, because they're upset that Herman Cain called her "Princess Nancy. "

"Indians scammed us" story is ridiculous
Every year on the day before Thanksgiving, Rush shares two stories, the "real" story of Thanksgiving, and the story that the Indians scammed the folks buying the island of Manhattan.
And I wish he wouldn't.
When British, Spanish, Dutch and French explorers first set foot in the "new world" they found Native Americans here. There were over 400 different tribes....maybe even more.
So when a tribe sold "it's" stake in Manhattan to the Dutch, it wasn't selling every other tribe's stake. But the Dutch, not being well acquainted with the variety of Indians around, assumed that they were.
Miscommunication all around.
And a moot point.
What about all the other times the Indians of specific tribes signed treaties, then had the white man break that treaty. Most famous being the Black Hills - a treaty was signed saying this sacred land would remain with the Indians...then gold was found there and that was all she wrote.
To this day there is over $45 million in a trust fund for the Indians of the Black Hills, to compensate them for their land being taken so long ago, illegally. The Indians won't accept it - they say those hills are not for sale and they want them back.
Do research on all the treaties that were signed and broken between white man and Indian throughout the history of the conflict, and you'll find that white man broke 90% of 'em.
(Which is not to say that people today should give land back to the Indians. They have been compensated - and their way of life way back then is now gone. Tragically, yes, but gone. Time to accept the world as it is, get off the reservation, and assimilate into American society. Because staying on a reservation with poverty and alcoholism is not the way to go. (And let us not forget that there are plenty of alcoholics of all races, who don't have the excuse that the Indians do, namely that they actually do have a genetic weakness for alcohol).
I'd like to see Rush spend the day before Thanksgiving justifying American businessmen's usurpation of Hawaii....
Our usurpation of the island of Bikini to do our atomic testing in the 1950s...just moving folks out with no regard to what *they* wanted! And even after they were moved, they weren't taken care of.
All these people from Bikini - or their descendants - (only 600 people, but still...) are still on the government teat, but they can't be blamed for that!

It [Rongerik Atoll] is most famous as the temporary location from March 7, 1946 through March 14, 1948 of the Bikini Atoll's indigenous population while the United States government conducted the Operation Crossroads nuclear tests. After months of food shortages and malnutrition, they were moved first to Kwajalein and finally to Kili Island.

What kind of reporting is this?
Edited: It's interesting...this story is making the rounds of various blogs. Conservative blogs are saying, "Yep, cheating Democrats." Democrat blogs (and message boards) are saying - "Republican prosecutor trying to intimidate black folk into not trying to vote. These people were just trying to help voters avoid laws put into place by Republicans to make it more difficult for them to vote."
And yet, both of the beliefs above are based only on the extremely poorly written article below which doesn't explain exactly what these people did! But I'd have to say that the fact that they are in jail rather than released on their own recognizance (my assumption based on the orange jumpsuit photos) means what they did was pretty serious.
Whatever happened to reporters telling the "who, what, when, where and why?"
Below is an transcripton of a news broadcast - 12 people in some town in Georgia were arrested for voter fraud - helping absentee voters vote illegally, somehow.
The party affiliation of these people is not given, but as you can see from the photo, they are all African-American. Law of probability therefore suggests, they are Democrats. But why didn't this news report say what politicians were effected by the fraud? That is the very least that should have been included in the story.
For that matter, why include their photos at all? Was the author not allowed to share political affiliation within the body of the text, so cleverly thought he'd make it clear by sharing the photo of the people involved?
I'm also surprised to see that all these women are wearing orange... i.e., they are actually in jail, wearing prison jumpsuits.
(Fortunately) the only thing I know about getting arrested is what I see on Law and Order, but what they show is that people get their mug shots taken before being put into orange jumpsuits and sent to a holding cell.... so apparently these women weren't released on their own recognizance but are actually in jail.

QUITMAN, GA (WALB) - 12 former Brooks County officials were indicted for voter fraud. The suspects are accused of illegally helping people vote by absentee ballot.
State officials launched an investigation after an unusually high number of absentee ballots were cast in the July 2010 primary election. "As a result of their grand jury findings 12 individuals were indicted in that particular matter and we will be trying that case in a court of judicial law instead of a court of public opinion so that will be pending this next year," said District Attorney Joe Mulholland.
The defendants include some workers in the voter registrar's office and some school board members. They are Angela Bryant, April Proctor, Brenda Monds, Debra Denard, Lula Smart, Kechia Harrison, Robert Denard, Sandra Cody, Elizabeth Thomas, Linda Troutman, Latashia Head, and Nancy Denard.
