I don't know why he continues to maintain this, as it's..I'm sorry, just silly.
I mean, come on! I watched Rush on the Haney Project. (And enjoyed it, too). And I think he lost 40 pounds prior to being on that show. And he's still got to be at least a hundred pounds overweight, if not more.
But oh, no, he's not going to exercise for the sake of exercising. He can lose weight by diet alone!
Story #2: Study: Exercise Makes You Want to Eat Donuts
RUSH: I love this. You know, every time I see a story like this I'm gonna be one of the first to pass it on to you. This is from the Queensland Australia University of Technology or QUT, "cut." "Exercise can increase some people's desire to eat high-fat, sugary foods such as doughnuts and prevent them from achieving weight loss goals, a new study shows. Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Associate Professor Neil King, from the Institute of Health Biomedical Innovation (IHBI), said exercise caused an increased wanting for fatty, sweet foods in some overweight and obese people.
"Professor King, a behavioural scientist, said his previous research, published in 2008, had shown the ability of overweight people to shed kilos through exercise varied considerably. 'What that told us is that exercise won't work in the same way for everyone,' he said. 'Some people lose weight equal to or more than the expected weight, whereas some people lose less weight than expected. We are now beginning to research and explain why they may not be able to lose the expected weight.'" In some people, exercise increases the number of trips to Dunkin' Donuts. See? See? I keep telling you.
Here's the kicker, which Rush did not share. From the article:
The results, recently published in the International Journal of Obesity, found 14 of the 34 people who successfully completed a 12-week supervised exercise program failed to achieve weight-loss targets.
In other words, the categorical statement "Exercise ups sweet cravings" (that's teh title of the article Rush was reading from) was based on the results of 34 peoplein Australia. 34!
It's ridiculous. I wouldn't believe this study even if they'd had 1,000 people as subjects. 10,000, maybe. But 34? I do not think so.
