Was it just poorly worded?

Rush, and others, are all over the fact that some commercial said, "Government is the only thing that we all belong to."

We do believe you can use government in a good way. Government's the only thing that we all belong to. We're different churches, different clubs, but we're together as a part of our city or our county or our state.

Now were they really saying we the citizens "belong" to the government, or had they just hired some no-nothing writer who just mis-wrote what he wanted to say - which is that we are all Americans, we are all citizens of a certain city or of a county of our state.
