Jerusaleum or Tel Aviv - a "gotcha" question?

Yesterday, a couple of reporters asked Jay Carney what city did the US consider the capitol of Israel - Tel Aviv or Jerusaleum. Carney couldn't answer the question.

Couldn't That's what the news headline said.

This makes it seem like he didn't actually know the actual capital city of Israel, but of course that wasn't the case. He was just refusing to say. He was WAFFLING. (To use a bingo my opponent used on me last night in a scrabble game.)

Well, he wasn't waffling, really, he was stonewalling.

No country recognizes Jerusealeum as Israel's capitol, because Israel acquired the land on which East Jerusaelim stands through force of arms. Every country wants Israel to give Jerusaleum back to Palestine and make Palestine a state of its own. Because of this, they are keeping the Palestinians entrapped in Palestine just as surely as Israel is. They want the Palesitinains to be looked on as victims - and their own actions in ensuring this are largely ignored by the diplomatic community!

But of course, Carney was being stupid. Just come out into the open and admit that the US's official position is that Tel Avivi is the Israeli capital. Unless he's been directed by the President to not voice the government's official position?

However, we continue to fund Israel's existence: (We're bankrupt. We've  got serious race relations problems in Anaheim. It sure would be nice if we could use that $70 mil to fund African American education in Anaheim instead of sending it to Israel.)
From the Boston Globe: Obama releases $70m in military funding for Israel
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama said Friday he is releasing an additional $70 million in military aid for Israel, a previously announced move that appeared timed to upstage Republican rival Mitt Romney’s trip to Israel this weekend.
The stepped-up US aid, first announced in May, will go to help Israel expand production of a short-range rocket defense system. The system, known as Iron Dome, has proved successful at stopping rocket attacks fired at Israeli civilians from close range, including from Gaza. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly ahead of the president.
