Rush quotes Michele Bachman:
RUSH: Michele Bachmann is organizing opposition to the deal and is basically fighting the establishment once again. Her primary argument is that the payments to people who don't work and don't pay taxes are just staggering. There is a continuing redistribution of wealth that's taking place. Now, in one sense, Obama has experienced his first defeat here in his effort to make the country worse off. He wanted a tax increase, and he has failed to get that. Now, we've been taking it in the shorts for two years from this guy, and that has been stopped in this deal. And it happened in the lame duck.
The problem is, where are the jobs? There's 10% unemployment, and as Rush says people have given up looking for work because there's no work out there. If there's no work out there, what else can they do but go on the dole (as they say in the UK.) It's not like most of 'em are deliberately arranging to make sure they can stay unemployed and fat and happy forever.
There simply are no jobs!
(Having said that...there's income to be had. Elance.com needs writers, bookkeepers, web designers. Textbroker.com pays very poorly, but you don't have to bid on jobs, you just do the work and get paid, and that's a sweet deal for someone short of money. Sit in front of your TV watching whatever you want to watch and do some writing for Textbroker at the same time. It all adds up to a reasonable payment at the end of a month...
But for people who used to have jobs earning $100,000, who now cant get a job anymore (I'm thinking people in Las Vegas or in the hospitality industry), I agree earning just $20,000 a year isn't going to cut it. Well, time for spouse and kids to go to work, too. Time to start a business catering to those people who still have money!
