Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP; vehicles are a family of armored fighting vehicles used by the United States armed forces, among others. The purpose of the design is surviving Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks and ambushes. The first developments in armored vehicles designed specifically to counter the land mine threat took place during the 1972-1980 Rhodesian Bush War and the technology was subsequently matured in South Africa
